Get Involved! Improving Standard of Care
Overview
Official Study Title:
Identifying Facilitators and Barriers for Increasing Uptake of Evidence Based Medications and Clinical guidelines in British Columbia
Title:
What are the things that help to ensure that patients are receiving care according to best information and guidance?
The Team:
We are a team of kidney and family doctors who are interested in learning more about how to develop and provide tools with and for patient partners to better understand their medical conditions and medications.
Background:
We know that how much you know about your condition and health in general affects the way you make decisions. This is called “health literacy.” More and more people are appreciating the importance of your health literacy on long term outcomes.
Our goal is to find out if there are more effective ways to provide medical information to patients that is more easily understandable and useful. To understand how to better provide learning materials and tools, we are planning to organize interviews with you as patients, so we can learn more about what is missing and how to help.
So, here is where you come in! We want to make sure that you are given a seat at the table so that you can share what your experience was, and make sure your experience guides what we should work on to help people like you
Types of interview questions:
Some of the things that we would want to know are:
1. How do you learn and research more about medical topics that interest you?
2. Where do you go to find information about medicines and medical conditions?
3. Do you want to know about new medications that might be useful for people with your medical condition?
Goals: We want to explore how patient partners learn and think about their medical conditions, available medicines, and treatment options. We want to understand what type of information patient partners have used and what works to help you understand and learn about your condition. We will use what we learn from you to create useful tools for patients and care providers to make sure you can receive the best care.
