Equitable Pandemic Communication Strategies to Support Sexual and Gender Minority Transplant Patients

Overview

This study aims to address health inequities experienced by sexual and gender minority (SGM) transplant patients during pandemics. By examining current practices in data collection, patient experiences, and community partnerships, the project seeks to develop equitable communication strategies tailored to the needs of SGM transplant recipients.

What You Will Be Asked to Do

Participants will be invited to take part in an individual interview lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, for which you will receive an honorarium. The discussion will explore:

  1. Experiences accessing health information from transplant centers
  2. Alternative sources of health information you rely on
  3. Preferred methods and channels for receiving reliable and trustworthy health information

The facilitator will guide the discussion to explore underlying beliefs while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

Eligibility

  • Identify as part of the sexual and/or gender minority community (e.g., gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, questioning, transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse);
  • Have received a solid organ or stem cell transplant;
  • Have experience with the Canadian healthcare system for transplant procedures and/or ongoing care.
